My retreat from the post-Amazon-apocalypse-GoodReads. My shelves and my reviews, I hope, will find a safe haven here.
I like to read epic fantasy (the bigger, thicker and longer, the better) and science fiction (perfer space operas). I also enjoy the occasional biography or history non-fiction.
Out in the real world, I'm an IT professional in the Legal industry. Tech doesn't scare me or phase me.
I received an e-mail (finally) this morning (at 3:00 a.m. Central) informing me my import of books, shelves and reviews had completed.
Looking back through my e-mails, I checked the date/time stamp for the first one I received telling me my import had started: 9:35 a.m. Central Monday September 23, 2013.
So, a week to import 1,537 books and the accompanying metadata and reviews (with varying levels of success).
I'm spot-checking shelves and will do a more thorough audit as time allows. My week is very full both at work and home, so I don't have high hopes of completing any audit soon.
I feel reasonably confident that 80-90% of my book catalog, ratings and reviews imported successfully.
My biggest regret thus far is the loss of my GR private notes and status updates (with accompanying comments).
Now to wean myself away from GR as much as possible. This would be easier if 1) a mobile website existed for BookLikes and/or 2) an Android app for BookLikes.
Meanwhile, I'll keep reading and stay calm. :)
